What I'm Saying To You

Dear Lonely Physicist,

I think you're great, really I do: figuring out the truths of this planet, letting other people know about the truths of this planet, eating burritos, making PowerPoints with quirky jokes, writing papers, going to lectures for the cookies (or complaining that the cookie quality has taken a nose dive), working late, dealing with rejection, drinking a lot, creating and implementing experiments, or drinking a lot of espresso (we know who you are).

But I'd like to mention something:

1. Put down your thick tome of Physical Biology of the Cell as your extracurricular reading and pick up some fiction/ poetry lit:

Memory for Forgetfulness by Marhmoud Darwish. Read this and you will learn something about poetic thought, a senseless war, and coffee. Especially the coffee.

Life on Mars by Tracy K. Smith. If you have tingling scientific sensations, stop, its not about that. Instead think about David Bowie on Mars serenading some aspect of your life while you fly through the universe dancing around a substitute for the sun. An excellent thoughtful poet, Tracy K. Smith, winner of the Pulitzer prize for this book.

On the Nature of Things by Lucretius. Have you gone down this road yet?

I hope.

Love,

Sarah
